According to a recent update of the Luxury Hotels Database of THRENDS, the 5 star hotels in pipeline in Italy in the coming years (2023 – 2027) has exceeded 100. To be exact, 117 new 5* hotels are in the pipeline construction, rebranding or upgrade, for a total of over 9,400 keys. Currently operational 5-star hotels result be 635, while in 2027, they will exceed the quota 750. Of these 117 new openings, 64% they will be chain hotels. The CPR (% keys of chain compared to the total offer), which currently stands at 54.5%, it would therefore reach 58.6%. The five destinations where the highest number of openings from 2023 to 2027 they are Rome, Milan, Venice, Arzachena and Florence; where 43% of the openings will be concentrated totals. The main destinations are confirmed as those arts & business, leisure and sun & beach.

Marriott International, as mentioned above in «The Bulletin» it is confirmed as the chain with the largest number of hotels in the pipeline (12), followed by Meliá Hotels International (5), Accor (4), Belmond (4) and Four Seasons (4). As far as brands are concerned, «W» is the brand of Marriott with the most hotels in pipelines. The brand debuted in Italy with the opening of W Rome in 2021, and now I’m in program the W Florence (ex Grand Hotel Majestic), W Naples (Palazzo Banca Di Roma), e the brace of W in Milan, in piazzetta Bossi in 2023 (W Milan) and at Palazzo Matteotti (W Milan Duomo) in 2024. Four Seasons and Rosewood instead they will debut in Rome and Venice, among others destinations. The opening is expected in a few days of the first 5-star resort of Mangia’s, that is, Mangia’s Torre del Barone Resort. The other 3 structures in the pipeline are: Mangia’s Santa Teresa Resort in Sardinia, Mangia’s Brucoli Resort (first Autograph in Sicily), whose opening is expected this summer, and Palazzo Gallo Favaloro, first «city hotel» of the group, whose opening is scheduled for 2024. Falkensteiner Hotels & Residences has instead in program 3 openings: in Licata (AG), Salò (BS) e Curtain (BL). In these coming years we will see the debut of many international brands: Oetker Collection, Edition, Orient Express, Cheval Blanc, Nolinski, Brach, Auberge Resorts, Corinthia, Baccarat, Langham, etc.
